Papa, snake and I

I enjoyed reading this story. This story was about a snake that was killing a farmers chickens and fowls but they did not know it was a snake until their kids found it. The snake killed the neighbors dog because it threatened the snake and therefor it bit him. The dogs owner found the dog dead and confronted the kids parents, to which they had no idea about the dog being bit. The dogs owner wanted $700 for compensation or he was going to turn them in to the administration.

Snapshots of a Wedding

This story was very controversial. It depicted two women, one who was educated and one who was not. The Educated woman would walk around with her nose in that air to signify that she thought she was more important that the others. The other less educated girl was just "going with the flow" she was liked but most of the people, maybe because there were not to many educated people in that region. Some people just think they are better than people just because they have a education but in reality there are some very good people in the world that are very smart but did not go to school to get and education.

The coffee-cart Girl

This was a ok story about love. A woman has a coffee-cart that she runs a business out of to make money, and she has a couple of regulars that come buy everyday to but items, but one of them sees a ring on her finger and becomes very jealous and puts a knife to her throat and threatens her. She tells him that it is just a method of payment from another customer but he doesn't believe her. The man doesn't threaten her but said he was sorry. He never say her again. That was strange what would poss a man to do that to a girl he hardly knew. I guess many things drive a man nuts...

Reflection in a cell

This man sounds like he doesn't not like rich white people, in fact he despises them. Deep down he wishes he had the money like them but he is angry that he has nothing. When their family and friends left them they turned to a like of crime. He talks about his first encounter with the law out side a bar. He doesn't sound like he is a happy man being locked up but the doesn't seem to have any remorse either. In the end he talks about two possibilities to which he wins.

Protista

This story is about a man that was found guilty of numerous political crimes was exiled to a very baroness place. His wife left him but left a sign to her return, bus she knew she would never return. he was going crazy because there was no water and he started having hallucinations. His father told him about a man fish which he thought he was one, and he was found dead in a river but police. he dream pt of being a tree and seeing his wife that had left him sitting on the tree and seeing her weep. He was a very mad man because he lost his wife and the thought he was a man fish that had to return to the river with his friends. So he wrote his wife a farewell letter and then left...

The Betrayal

This story is very political. It seems like this gentlemen played a big role in a youth's organization. He spoke at them often and had his opinions. On meeting in particular there was opposing sides there and one side was condoning the organization and the doctor did night like that so he jumped out of his seat and spoke in a stern voice. Everything calmed down and then the meeting proceeded and then they got fired up again, but this time there was a large fight that broke out and the police were called in and he left the scene in disappointment.

The Bridegroom

I would have thought this would be about a wedding but it was not. In the beginning it starts out sounding like he will be getting married but then fads to his son's cooking. He mentions that he taught his how to cook koeksusters, which was his favorite. Then it transitions to them being in a camp, but it doesn't say what kind of camp. They are sitting around the fire playing music and then others join and before you know it there is quite a lot of people listening to them playing by the fire, to them was very enjoyable. I thought it was a good story but the title is misleading...

Minutes of glory

This Story was a very strange and very hard to understand. But I think it is about people stealing other peoples minutes of Glory.

The Spiders web

It starts out with a man having a nightmare about being buried alive. It seems that there is some on going problems between the Africans and the Europeans like there forcing their belief on them and their culture and the African are resisting to their everlasting regret. This story was confusing i really did not understand what was going on.

A conversation from the third floor

The Story starts out with a woman in front of a building. It gives no description of what she is doing there but she is there for a purpose. A man appears from a window from the three story building shouting at the woman on the street. At that point we have no idea who that man is. He shouts again and again, it must be some one she knows because he is asking all kinds of questions. Later in the story we find out that the man in the window is her husband and he is in jail for reasons unknown. He exclaims that he is being transfered some where and tells her to not return to him. In the end the woman just walks a way from the building not looking back.

A Handful of dates

This is a great story about a Boy and his close and strong relationship with his grandfather.
At the very end of the story they were gathered around the date tree and were eating the freshly picked dates, The boy had been given five dates to which he did not hesitate to eat. I guess that was the first time that he had tried dates and he did not like them very much, so he ran away from the group towards the river and vomited them back up. It was like he was ashamed of doing that if front of his grandfather because he respected his grandfather so much, that he didn't want to disappoint him.

An Incident in the Ghobashi household

What was the point of this story... There is little description about what is going to happen. a Mother is sending her daughter to a better place, away from poverty and disillusion. Is it a slave market?

Bossy

In the beginning Haji receives a letter from Karim, where he inquires about the events taking place in Haji's life. Haji speaks of his friends Wire and Rashid (otherwise known as Bossy). Rashid had a dominating personality. He was talented and highly admired by Haji. He was a master of sailing, and took the lead. They venture off to this island with a bygone empire located there. Haji repulsed by the lack of sanitation, straggled slowly behind Bossy. While departing from the island, Bossy boasts his skills of swimming, and leaves Haji unattended with the sail. Haji, struggled to keep the boat at ease. He could not accommodate the waves' bipolar behavior. He cries out for Bossy, but he never finds him. He lands at Mbweni, cuts all over his weak body, and is beaten with sticks by savage-like men. They claim to have overthrown the Prime Ministe. They threatened to shoot Haji because of his Arab decent. They beat him, and urinated on his, leaving him stranded and defenseless on the beach.

The Green leaves

This story shows the some differences that two different societies. One clan has different laws than the white man, the clan can kill a man for good reason such as sleeping with another mans wife or stealing another's cattle. The white man has to have very good justification and try the thief in a court of law. The main character met his death on greed. He didn't really need the money but he went through with it and got a stick in the eye, to which killed him. The man should have stayed in his hut and not panic.

The Will of Allah

It was contradicting that Sule had such strong religious views, yet he didn't hesitate to steal from people. His philosophy was that Allah created some people more well off than others. He felt the less fortunate were justified to steal from the rich. The irony is the judge assures that Sule will get his "just deserts" when in the end he meets his death after stealing a gourd with a venomous snake secretly hidden inside it. When he realizes he's going to die, he respects Allah's decision.

Civil Peace

I would have never put my family in any kind of position to where they would be threatened. This man in the story threatened his family over money and said that they could kill them if they found 100 lbs to which he might of had. He should have held them off as long as possible. Maybe he was not careful enough with his money and was too flashy with it.

The Will of Allah

What was that about.? Ok some one was on crack when they wrote this... animals do not hold commission or present evidence. This story is really weird, i really don't know what the point of it was. What did they learn from it, taking other peoples places? I guess man really showed them, back wards laws... We Kick animals out of their homes and now they had a chance to kick us out.

The Apprentice

This guy just wanted to forge items the way her wanted. But... he was just an apprentice, he was learning how the make these things. His Master was teaching him to make good quality items. He got sloppy with his work an thus sparked a feud between them. If he had his own shop, and was through with his apprenticeship, sure go make and experiment but when a person is learning they should follow the teacher then go off and do their own thing, with the knowledge from the teacher. what was the point of this story?

Certain Winds From the South

If I was in that soma situation I would have helped out my family even though it would be hard for them. I could have a went to a different place and made more money to support their poor family.
even though it was hard on the mother because her husband left and never returned not her son has left her. In the beginning she was all distraught and then it was like she was fine when she returned to the house, was it related to a bad experience?

Te Gentlmen of the Jungle

It seems like some one was trying to teach his a lesson. He changed his name to a more biblical name to gain wealth and power. He was stealing from other people that believed that he had a special connection. God wanted to teach him a lesson by taking what he treasured most, not what he believed in. But why would they depict a skinny black guy in his "dream", what is the significance?
